The Berger Family

Team Leader: Leslie Swart

The Berger family is a large extended family. Every inch of their home is utilized to accommodate young women and their children who have experienced personal crisis as a result of being incarerated. Now they are ready to return to a working society enabling them to become independent. Many of these woman have no where else to go. Their current home is not only too small but is also wearing down from accommodating such a large family. A truly remarkable family who serves as an example to all of us that helping those in needs brings a remarkable sense of happiness. Now it's our turn to give back to the Bergers. The Makeover Committee needs materials and labor to perform home improvements.

Updated February, 2008

1) Brief Scope of Project

Adding a pantry/laundry room on to the kitchen. Redoing Mrs Berger's room to include a bathroom and office for her ministry work. The room is curently sub-terrain resulting in flooding in rainy season. The stairwell remains uncompleted requiring a contractor to finish. Consider adding another bedroom upstairs. Installation of a new roof; new a/c/heater upstairs and down; replace current washer and dry with max capacity washer/dryer.

2) Accomplishments, permit status and current obstacles

An inspection was done on the property that showed her bedroom, closet and office are sub-terrain. There is a hole in the roof allowing major heat in during the summer and cold in during the winter. A roofing company along with another company has offered to supply and install the new roof. The current obstacle is that we need an architect or
draftsman to draw the plan before we can move forward. If house not completed by April/May we may need to get temporary wall unit a/c's to get them through summer.

3) What will be needed to complete this project.

Once we have floor plan drawn, we should have a specific list of needs for the renovation. In the meantime we would like to get the Berger family a much needed front load max capacity washer/dryers, and 2 new standard air conditioning units- one for upstairs, one for down stairs.
